SOPOTNICA WATERFALLS (1100 m)

I thought that Taor springs are the most beautiful cascades of Serbia. I was wrong. Taor springs are a miniature variant of the Sopotnica waterfalls.

The village of Sopotnica, with its cascades and waterfalls, is located on the western slopes of the Jadovnik mountain. It is 300 km far from Belgrade. It takes between five and six hours of drive by the Ibar highway. When you pass the town of Prijepolje, after 11 km you will see a board “Lucice”. Turn left toward village of Lucice and cross a wooden bridge. Do not worry, the bridge is safe for cars. Follow the signposts and after 6 km you will reach the lodge “Sopotnica”, where you can sleep. There is a turn right after Prijepolje toward Sopotnica, but do not go that way. At the end of this asphalt road is a bad macadam road. It is necessary to drive for 2-3 km by this road, if you want to reach the mountain lodge.

A circular path, which is 2 km long, will lead you from the lodge to the waterfalls and cascades. Markings are poor. Just follow the path and you will find out where to go without a problem. Distance between the lodge and the first waterfall is 15 minute of walk. The path passes by the waterfalls and cascades. The highest waterfall is 25 m high, others are from 19 to 23 m. Enjoy the pictures!
