DURMITOR (Bobotov kuk 2522 m)

Bobotov kuk, at mountain Durmitor, is one of the highest peaks of Montenegro. It is located near the town of Zabljak. Distance between Belgrade and Zabljak is about 400 km. You have to travel by the Ibarska highway, via Prijepolje, and to cross the border at Jabuka. Then, the road goes across the bridge, called Djurdjevica Tara, on Tara River, where it turns towards Zabljak and Durmitor National Park.

Due to a bad weather, on the first day, we decided to visit Durmitor lakes. The most famous is the glacial Black lake (Crno jezero), from which many tracks leads towards Durmitor peaks. Lake is situated 3 km from the town of Zabljak. Black lake is located at 1418 m a.s.l. The maximum depth is about 50 m. Above the lake, the top Medjed (2287 m) rises. About 5,5 hour of walk is needed, from the Black lake to Bobotov kuk.

Next morning, weather was much better, so we took the bus to a saddle called Sedlo (Saddle), where we started to climb to Bobotov kuk. The trail is rocky and wavy, with a lot of steep climbs. At some places, you have a feeling like you’re on another planet! Also, some sights seems depressing, when you’re surrounded by a bunch of rocks. But, there is a lot of breathtaking sights! This outstanding beauty and a sense of freedom, can be experienced only in the mountains of Montenegro.
