MALJEN (Veliki Kozomor 1007 m, waterfalls Crna reka and Skakalo)

Like most peaks on Maljen, Kozomor is also located at Divcibare. You can reach it from the lookout Paljba (1051 m). From Belgrade, the road to Divcibare and Paljba leads through the town of Mionica. Distance between Belgrade and Divcibare is about 120 km (2 hours of drive). From Paljba, you can see Kozomor and Subjel.

From Paljba, you must descend for some 800 m, along the main asphalt road, to the beginning of the path that leads, through the forest, to Veliki Kozomor (1007 m). If you find that path, the rest is no problem. I recommend navigation, just because of that first turn. From that turn, the top is about 2 km away (half an hour of walk). The ascent is about 100 m, which makes the trail quite easy. As soon as you come out of the forest, you will see the markings. From the top, you can see a bunch of mountains and all Divcibare peaks.

Some 400 m below Kozomor, in the direction of the marking (Rosica lake), there is another interesting lookout.

After Kozomor, drive to the children’s resort “Stevan Filipovic”. The last turn to the right, before the resort, is a narrow asphalt road, which turns into macadam. From the macadam, you need about 10-15 minute of walk to the river Crna reka (Black river) and the waterfall with the same name. Follow the macadam road that goes down, and turn right onto a meadow, and then immediately into the forest, where a steep path leads to the river. Use GPS here, although there are some markings, in the form of orange stripes. The waterfall is nice and beautiful, although it is only 7-8 meters high.

Now, get ready for the last and most demanding part of this tour. From the children’s resort, drive toward the town of Mionica. After 2-3 km, park your car at the fountain of St. Petka.

Walk down the asphalt road, to the signpost “Vodopad Skakalo”. The signpost is 10 minute far from the fountain. When you enter the forest, in about 15 minutes of walking by a steep, marked path, you will come at the foothill of the waterfall. To see it better, you have to climb another 50 meters, over the rocks. The markings on the rocks are clearly visible, so you will know where to climb. Climbing rocks requires caution and effort, so it’s not for everyone! In the summer months, when there is less water, you can climb to the very foothill of the waterfall. Waterfall Skakalo is 30 m high and it really looks impressive! I am sure that it is the most impressive in the spring.

This interesting tour can be done before the noon. Not so many people visit these destinations; their goal is mainly Crni vrh, Velika pleca, Golubac, Kraljev stol and Ljuti krs. I would recommend everyone to do this tour, especially in the spring, when the waterfalls are full with water and beauty!

July 2021.
