JADOVNIK (Katunic 1733 m)
Jadovnik is one of the most beautiful mountains I have ever seen. From its peak, the view is breathtaking! I experienced something similar only at mountain Dukat, near Vlasina lake.
From Belgrade to Jadovnik, you must drive by the Ibar highway, where, at Pozega, you must turn on the road to Ivanjica. From Ivanjica, you will follow the signs to Sjenica, via mountain Javor. You must pass by the Uvac lake. Distance between Belgrade and Sjenica is about 290 km. When you arrive at Sjenica, look for the road to Prijepolje. Sjenica is a small, but interesting city.
On the way to Prijepolje, you will see a little picnic place, on the left side of a small river. Trail to Katunic (1733 m) starts at this point.
On the left side of the highway, but in the opposite direction, is a signpost, with the name of the village of Gonje. That signpost marks the beginning of the trail. The road is dusty and dirty, you can not miss it. I went by car to the top, but I do not recommend it. The road is full of holes, with very steep slopes, at some places.
Serbian army is at the top, so you can not reach the highest point. But, you can explore around and enjoy in fantastic views. You can see Montenegrin mountains, Javor, Golija, Zlatar … I was fulfilled with happines at this peak. I’ll let pictures to speak, instead of words.
July 2011.
