BLACK RIVER CANYON

Black river (Crna reka) canyon is an undiscovered beauty of Valjevo county. This protected area is not visited by too many people and that is the reason why Black river is one of the last clean river in Serbia.

Entrance in the canyon is in the village Podbukovi. Village Podbukovi is 123 km away from Belgrade. It can be reached by Ibar highway, for about 2 hours of drive. Just before you enter into the city of Valjevo, turn left for Kosjeric, there is a signpost. After twenty 20 km by car, you will arrive at Podbukovi. Stop your car 200 meters after stone pit “Podbukovi”. The end point is a sign on this picture, before a sharp bend that goes right and uphill:

You will start your hike by the gravel road. At the beginning of the path, you will spot this mark:

After 1 km, you will reach household Obradovic. This household is involved in rural tourism. In here, you can overnight or have a decent meal. Household can host 8 to 10 people. Telephone number of Obradovic family is +3811143555114 and +381644485605.

Across household Obradovic is the entrance into the Black river canyon. From the gravel road, the path leads to the left. You can see it at this photo: You will see the bridge with a sign “Crna reka” (Black river).You will come to a meadow. After the meadow is another small bridge. When you cross it, you’re in the canyon. The trail is not marked, there are some small red markings on the rocks in the canyon. I advise you to walk by the trail with trampled grass, that is the safest way not to get lost. Of course, the major part of the trail runs through the riverbed, which means that you must walk from stone to stone. This is nothing scary or demanding. On the contrary, it is a pleasure. In some places, it takes a little more concentration. There are several places that are ideal for swimming, such an opportunity should not be missed. We walked about 3 hours and then returned.
