BESNA KOBILA (1923 m)

Besna kobila is located 400 km from Belgrade. It can be reached via Vranje. Near Vranje, turn to Vranjska Banja and then to the village Kriva Feja. After 5 hours of drive, from Belgrade, you will reach a mountain lodge at Besna kobila.

 I strongly recommend a short stop at Vranje and Vranjska Banja. At Vranje, you can see a house of a great Serbian writer Bora Stankovic, old Turkish bath, White bridge and several interesting buildings.

Vranjska Banja is the hottest spa in Europe, with a water temperature of 90 °C! Wherever you look, you will see the clouds of steam, coming out of the soil!

About 30 km south of Vranje, lies a monastery of Prohor Pcinjski. The monastery is located only 4 km from the Macedonian border.

The trail starts at mountain lodge, which is 1462 m a.s.l. Path to the top is very easy to walk.

After hour and a half (or 5 km), you will reach the top of Besna kobila. After 3,5 km, the trail leads to the left and into the woods. 

The view from the top is fascinating! In the distance, you can see the highest peak of mountain Vardenik, Veliki Streser (1876 m). You can reach it, if you continue along the ridge. It is 15 km away, from the top of Besna kobila.

When you get off the ridge of Besna kobila, path will lead you to the Russian monument. This is the best way to finish this nice and easy tour!
