CANYON OF RIVER ROSOMACA
Rosomaca Canyon (Rosomaca pots) is located in the village of Slavinja, 30 km from the town of Pirot. The distance from Belgrade is about 340 km, which is about 4 hours of drive. You must travel by the motorway to Pirot and then follow the signs toward Rsovci, Visocka Rzana and Slavinja. At Pirot, at the first roundabout, go in the direction of “Visocki put” (signpost). You will pass the market and the bridge. Just before the village of Rsovci, a monastery of St. Elias, from 19th century, lies.
The next stop is Rsovci. The village looks like it is captured in time. Some houses are more than a century old .
Rsovci are famous for the fresco of our Lord Jesus Christ, known as the “Bald Jesus”. It is located in the cave church of Sv. Peter and Paul, at a 10 minute walk from the center of the village. There are signposts, to the church. The road leads along the Visocica river.
The cave church is from the 13th century. The Fresco of Jesus Christ is from 14th century, during the reign of Prince Lazar. On the fresco, the Lord is without hair, which is a unique case in the Christian world. When you enter the church, look left and up, there is a fresco.
From the center of Rsovci, follow the path towards Vladikine ploce, and you will come, after 2 km, to this beautiful waterfall, called Kaludzerski do.
The next village you will pass is Visocka Rzana. Then you will come to Slavinja. 3 minutes from the center of Slavinja is the church of St. George, from the 16th century.
The path to the Rosomaca canyon is well marked. Rosomaca pots are located 2 km from the center of the village, which is about half an hour of easy walk. Suddenly, right out of nowhere, you will see a little wonder of nature in front of you – Rosomaca pots! At this place, the river Rosomaca creates a small, but beautiful canyon.
