PESTER HIGHLAND (1200 m)
Pester highland is well known for its extremely low winter temperatures. The lowest temperature ever measured in Serbia, minus 39 degrees, was measured at Pester, in the village of Karajukica Bunari, in 2006. Green and undulating pastures, as far as the eye can see, is what you can experience at this beautiful place, during the summer. Rasanska river, which flows through the green fields, will fulfill your eyes and soul. Pester’s altitude is from 900 to 1200 m. The following photos were made at the village of Rasno, at 1200 m.
From Belgrade, you must drive by the Ibar highway to Pozega, where you will turn on the road to Ivanjica. At Ivanjica, follow the signs to Sjenica. Distance between Ivanjica and Belgrade is about 180 km. Sjenica is 40 km away from Ivanjica. At Sjenica, follow the road to Novi Pazar and, after 23 km, turn toward the village of Duga Poljana. The road, from Duga Poljana, leads toward Karajukica Bunari, but, after 12 km, asphalt road becomes macadam road, just before the village of Rasno. That was the endpoint of my trip; I did not want to go by car any further.
The big and vast expanse of Pester plateau gives you a unique sense of freedom and wideness; a feeling that can rarely be experienced. Free and tame herds of sheeps, horses and cows that graze peacefully, clear river that murmurs, all of that inspires serenity and calm, which is not comparable with anything! Here you can breathe free! It is good that a man is not fully conquered this untouched part of nature, yet.
