JAGODNJA (Kosutnja stopa 940 m)
Path to the top of Jagodnja starts at the center of Krupanj. Krupanj can be reached via Valjevo, so you must drive by the Ibar highway. Krupanj is about 165 km away from Belgrade (about 2.5 hours of drive). Approximately 1 km north from Krupanj, is the village of Dobri potok (Good stream). The church of the Dormition of the Virgin, from the 14th century, exists in the village. The church is located in a small, but beautiful, ethno village. In every cottage of this village is a small museum, dedicated to long forgotten times.
The path to Kosutnja stopa starts from the town of Krupanj, from the street Zica Markovic.
The asphalt road leads uphill and then onto a gravel road. The trail is not marked, but it is not a problem to follow it. You just need to stay on the main road and pay attention at two or three junctions. The first one is this, do not turn left, just continue straight ahead:
The trail passes through picturesque countryside. Just at the start, you will spot the highest peak of Jagodnja.
This hut is a perfect place for a longer break. There is also a crossroad with three paths, follow the one that leads to the right.
This is about two-thirds of the trail, Kosutnja stopa is not so far anymore.
The trail leads through the woods to the last major intersection. Choose the second path to the left.
Another half an hour and you are on the top. A transmitter stands on the top of Jagodnja. There is no lookout and the peak is in the forest. Kosutnja stopa is, for now, the least attractive peak I climbed into my mountaineering career. But again, I can say that I conquer one more mountain 🙂
It takes about 3 hours to the top. When you go down from Kosutnja stopa and turn left on a macadam road, after 1 km you will reach Mackov kamen (Tomcat stone). There is a shortcut through the woods, you will find it easily.
Many Serbs died in the battle at Mackov kamen in the First World War. Superior Austrian army, backed by Germany, caused the defeat of the Serbian army. But, it was a Pyrrhic victory, with many casualties on both sides. In memory of the heroic resistance of the Serbian army, a mausoleum was built.
Not far from this location, at 10 minutes of walk, is a fantastic viewpoint! You can see the winding river Drina and Medvednik, Bobija and Sokolske mountains.
Jagodnja can be reached in a less strenuous way, by car. In Krupanj, there is a signpost to Mackov kamen and it leads to the asphalt road. From there it is easy to go to Kosutnja stopa and to this beautiful lookout point.
This tour is easy and not something particularly interesting. You must overcome 600 m of altitude difference. If you find yourself in this area, do not miss the chance to enjoy in the beautiful panorama of the river Drina!
