CANYON OF RIVER TOPLODOLSKA
Toplodolska river is also called “The Serbian Colorado”, due to the red color of its rocks. It is located about 15 km from Pirot, ie., about 345 km from Belgrade. On the way to the canyon, you must pass village Temska and the monastery of St. George, outside Temska. The road is paved, but not ideal. Entrance in the canyon is a couple of kilometers after the monastery. I can not exactly describe where, I just know that there’s a bend to the left and before that bend is an entrance into the canyon. Maybe these photos can be the landmark:
Enter in the canyon only in old shoes and swimming suit. Carry a camera only if you can hold your hand above the water while you swimming. Or if you have a waterproof bag.
You will walk by the shore for a little bit, but mostly through the water. At one point, due to the big rock and strong rapids, river is not passable. You must bypass it through the woods on the left. You will recognize this place, there is a path. There are a few critical rapids, but just let a stream to carry you, with your feet forward! Underwater rocks could hurt your head, if you let your head to go first, instead of your feet. At some places you will need to swim, but dont worry, the water is not so cold. Here are some photos from this wonderful place:
At the end, after about 3 hours of adventure, you will exit on a gravel road, 15 meters from the asphalt. Also, to the left of the water, there is a gravel road that leads to a small waterfall on river Visocica. There is also a small lake.
This is an unusual tour and I recommend it only to those who are in a good condition. For passing this canyon, a person must be more or less, fit.
