RTANJ (Siljak 1565 m)
Rtanj is a Serbian mystical mountain, with many legends. It is located in eastern Serbia and attracts attention of tourists and mountaineers, primarily because of its pyramidal shape. Some scientists are constantly trying to prove that Rtanj, in ancient times, was a pyramid! Locals talk about the frequent visits of aliens; even I had the opportunity to hear one story about an alien, when I got lost at the foothill of Rtanj. However, it must be admitted, that some unusual energy exists around this place. The slopes are rich in wild strawberries and famous Rtanj tea. The top constantly attracts the clouds, so longer stay at the top is not recommended.
Rtanj can be climbed from the direction of Soko Banja or from settlement Rtanj. Settlement Rtanj is about 200 km away from Belgrade. You must travel by the highway Belgrade-Nis and, near Paracin, turn toward Boljevac and Zajecar. Shortly before the turn for Boljevac, is a village of Rtanj. In the village is a motel “Balasevic”, where you can refresh yourself, before demanding climb, considering that you must overcome an altitude of 1000 m. The trail starts from the restaurant “Rtanj”. It leads through the woods and then exit onto the opening, below Rtanj. It takes about 3 hours to the top.
At the top are the remains of the chapel, which was build by up Greta Munch, in honor of his husband Julius Munch, former owner of the mine “Rtanj”. The chapel was blown in the thirties, of the last century. Today, there are only remains. Locals thought that the gold was hidden in the chapel, so, they, unfortunately, destroyed it.
Siljak
The view from the top is fantastic! In the distance, you can see Soko Banja and the mountains around it. Return is by the same path, unless you decide to walk the whole reef of Rtanj.
