KOPAONIK (Nebeske stolice 1800 m, waterfall Jelovarnik)

Mountain Kopaonik is a popular tourist destination. It hides many natural beauties that are easy to reach. One of them is waterfall Jelovarnik. It is the third highest waterfall in Serbia (71 m), after Kopren (103 m) and Kaludjerski waterfall (232 m), both located at Stara planina.

From Belgrade, the road to Kopaonik and waterfall Jelovarnik leads through the town of Krusevac and the village of Brzece (about 280 km from Belgrade). But first, you will travel by the Belgrade-Nis highway. At the end of Brzece, at a place called Mramor, where the monument of fallen soldiers from the Second World War stands, starts a 5 km long path to the waterfall Jelovarnik. That path is a good macadam road, which you can use to drive down to the waterfall.

After the waterfall, drive for another 20 km, to the center of Kopaonik, to the Grand Hotel. The path to the Nebeske stolice (Heavenly Chairs 1800 m) starts from here. There are signposts, so you will find your way easily. The path to the top is marked well and the walk is really pleasant. It is necessary to overcome about 100 meters of ascent. At the top are the remains of an early Christian church (5th-6th century), but also traces from the 3rd-4th century. This is an important archaeological site.

Kopaonik is a big mountain, but the trails are not demanding. If you are staying on this beautiful mountain, make an effort to walk to some of the peaks, it is worth of try.
