HOMOLJE MOUNTAINS (Breza 803 m)

Breza was a totally unknown top for me. It is hidden in the heart of Homolje mountains, and it is impossible to reach it without the help of a local guide. The track is not marked; only GPS helps. The trail starts at halfway between the villages of Debeli Lug and Leskovo. From Belgrade, drive through Pozarevac and Kucevo, to the intersection for Majdanpek. You are not going to the left for Majdanpek, but to the opposite side, towards Debeli Lug and Leskovo. When you get out of Debeli Lug, just before the bridge, on the right side of the road, the path begins. From Belgrade, you must drive for about 180 km (about 3.5 hours).

Beginning of the trail

Without GPS, it’s crazy to start this tour. In the first 1.5 km you will need to overcome about 300 m of ascent, through the forest. This is also the hardest part of the route. After you come out of the woods, you will be on a saddle. From here you can see the top Garvan and mountains Veliki Krs and Borski Stol. Autumn colors are beautiful at the Homolje mountains!

After 2 hours of moderate hiking, you are on the top. Breza is a rocky peak from which you can see the town of Majdanpek and its mines, but also the mountain Starica (left on the picture) above the city.

From the top, we went into the Black river (Crna reka) canyon. After 2.5 hours, we are at the starting point. If you decide to make a circular tour (through the Black river canyon) you will have to cross the river 5-6 times, but that is not a problem.

This tour is perfect for short autumn days and is not difficult at all. The route is 14 km long. It is a pity that the track is not marked, but I think this will change in the near future. I was once again enchanted with the Homolje mountains. I am looking forward to conquer some new Homolje peak in the future.
