STARICA (796 m)

Mountain Starica rises above the town of Majdanpek. Distance between Belgrade and Majdanpek is about 190 km. It can be reached via towns of Smederevo and Pozarevac. Before you start your hiking tour, I recommend a visit of two interesting sites. One is Beli Izvorac and other one is Valja Prerast. Follow the signposts from Majdanpek and, after 17 km, you will reach tufa accumulation, called Beli Izvorac.

Path to the top of Starica starts from the artificial lake Veliki Zaton, which is 2 km away from Majdanpek.

You will need about 1.5 to 2 hours of walk, to the top. The view from the top is fascinating! It seems like the whole city is at the palm of your hand. It looks like the huge, green grove, will suck the whole town of Majdanpek in a second!

After you come down from Starica, you can visit Rajko’s cave, which is located 2.5 km from Majdanpek. By calcite decorations, this cave is the richest cave of Eastern Serbia. It was named after haiduk leader Rajko. The legend says that, in the 19th century, Rajko hide its prey in the cave. According to the legend, the treasure is still hidden in the cave.
