BELJANICA (1339 m)

Beljanica is most famous for its waterfall Veliki buk (or Lisine), located at the foothill of this mountain. You can reach the top from two directions. One is from the waterfall, other is from the mountain lodge “Lisine”. Path from waterfall starts at 450 meters a.s.l. Ascent is constant all the way. This trail is marked all the way to the top. Mountain lodge is located at 376 meters a.s.l. The restaurant “Zubor vrela” is located a few hundred meters from the lodge. Trail from the lodge is easier and more beautiful to climb, because it is not too steep. Path leads through the meadows with beautiful views at the Beljanica reef. The trail is marked at the beginning, but it loses marks when it gets into the woods. Soon, marks are reappearing again. By some sense and logic, you will succeed to find the right path.

Distance between Belgrade and waterfall Lisine is about 150 km. You must drive by the highway Belgrade-Nis and the turn to Svilajnac. After Svilajnac, follow the signs to Despotovac and Strmosten. Waterfall Lisine is located 4 km from Strmosten, there is a signpost.

From the meadows, you will enter the path that is marked all the way to the top. From the path you can go right, to the lookout point. There is a beautiful view at the river Resava canyon.

The trail continues beneath the reef of Beljanica.

From this place, hard and steep climb starts. You must overcome an altitude difference of about 500 meters.

After 45 minutes, you are on the reef. Meadows below the summit are speckled with Christmas trees. Small path on the right passes between the trees and leads to the top.

And finally, the top of Beljanica! From 1339 meters, you will see mountains Rtanj, Jezevac, Vukan, Sumorovac… Beautiful! An amazing view!

It takes about 3 hours to the top, with a constant rise. It takes a little less time to climb down, to the 15 meter high waterfall Veliki Buk, where this interesting tour ends.

Because of the height difference of almost 1000 meters, Beljanica is one of the three most difficult mountains in Serbia to climb. The other two are Rtanj and peak Trem at Suva planina (Dry mountain). However, the beautiful landscapes and the magnificent view from the top is worth every meter of altitude difference!
