RIVER SUSARA GORGE AND DEVIL’S LAKE

The tour Susara gorge-Devil’s lake is not easy, especially for the beginners. You will have to walk a lot, with a few steep climbs. First you will pass the river Susara gorge. At the end of the tour, river Nera comes, with the magnificent Devil’s Lake (Lacul Dracului).

The trail starts at the end of the village Sasca Montana. The road to Sasca Montana leads, from Belgrade, through Pancevo, Kovin and Bela Crkva, to the border crossing Kaludjerovo. When you enter Romania, after 100 meters, turn left, towards Oravita. The final destination is the village of Sasca Montana. Just follow the signs to Sasca Montana. The road to the village is very bad and full of holes, so pay attention. The distance between Belgrade and Sasca Montana is 120 km, or about 2.5 hours of drive. You do not need a vignette.

When you enter Sasca Montana, just drive to the end of the asphalt road. There you will see a table which marks the beginning of the path and enters the river Susara canyon. The trail is marked very well, just follow the blue cross and there is no way to get lost. The waterfall Susara is about 3 km far, which is about 45 minutes of faster walk. The path to the waterfall is very easy. The waterfall is beautiful! It is 15 meters high and conquers with its beauty.

From Susara waterfall, you will need about an hour of walk to exit the canyon. The trail goes through the woods all the time. To get out of the canyon, you will have to overcome a pretty steep climb at the end of the path. Soon you will be on a macadam road in front of the village of Carbunari. Take the left macadam road. Macadam road that goes on the right will lead you back to Sasca Montana (2 hours of walk). So, when you are on the macadam road, you will see a signpost to the Devil’s lake (Lacul Dracului). The signpost says 2 hours, but it surely takes at least 15-20 minutes more.

Suddenly, you will see something magnificent in front of you! I have never seen such a bluefish color of the lake. I was quite surprised! Devil’s lake has exceeded my expectations!

You can find the legend of the origin of the lake on the internet. Enjoy the photos:

The beauty of the Devil’s lake will not leave you indifferent. The impressions we have taken are clearly depicted on our faces on the photo taken on the Nera coast, 20 meters from Lacul Dracului.
